Glossybox - yay or nay???

There are probably a couple of more glossybox posts to come but seeing as i get asked so often if the glossybox is a yes or no i thought i would post my thoughts. Glossybox is a relatively new idea that you sign up for 15 euro a month and receive a box of 5 luxury sized samples from higher end brands to your home each month. On the basis i have to say glossybox doesn't really deliver. I have received very little from what i would call higher end brands so far and on that basis will probably opt out after Christmas. The danger with glossybox is that you get a box of products that aren't suited for you or you just don't like. While some products i've received have been nice i haven't found anything that made me say wow! I think i would be better off hopping into boots every month with my €15 to treat myself to cheaper things that i know i like.

Unfortunately i found glossybox of little help when one of my boxes went missing their answer was just to sit and wait. They came back to me with an answer later on but it ended up being the 8th of December by the time i finally got my November glossybox. I know some people have still not received their November glossybox. More to follow on glossybox when the December box arrives, hopefully in December and not January....

Review : The Body Shop 4 step smoky eyes palette

I've tried this out for 2 weeks now and my views have stayed the same as the first day i used it. My first impressions when buying it were that the pigments seemed good but that gold creamy shadow was a bit too cream/silicone like.

This comes in another colour silver black.

The instructions for how to get their super smokey look are on the back of the pack and are quite easy to follow BUT this look will do nothing for you if you have a hooded eye as the matte shadow on the lid will hide your lid even more and the shimmer on the upper eye will bring out the hooded appearance more. If you have droopy eyes you will probably find that they look more droopy with this heavy look too.

As i had thought the colours blended well and were decently pigmented. When it came to applying the gold cream sparkle though i was less than impressed. This is far too creamy to put on over shadows and will cause your shadows to congeal and crease. I patted it over the shadow to try to avoid this but to no avail. The shadows creased up on me within about an hour. On trying to blend the shadows out i ended up with lumps of cream and shadow crumbling off my lid together leaving either no colour or a bit of a mess behind.

What i personally found was that by starting the eye make up application y using the gold cream first in the inner corner and under the eye brow a better result was achieved. But in all honesty this palette would have been much much better if the gold was just a sparkly shadow as the cream takes away from the palette rather than giving it an extra oopmh. I had hoped to love this so much that i would buy the other shade offering but unfortunately found myself disappointed i had bothered with this one.

Review : Guerlain Vol de Nuit Powder

OH MY GOD!

This is gorgeous!!!!!

At Christmas time i go a bit mental for sparkle and you'll probably see that in a few of my December purchases. This is a lightly fragranced shimmer powder dispensed from an old style perfume puff. While i'm not a fan of the original Vol de nuit fragrance this is very light and truly lovely. The shimmer isn't the usual gold glitter its a mix of gold, blue, silver, etc but all blends so well together to just give a beautiful, enchanting, sophisticated sparkle and lift. I've used this on my skin and in my hair and received so many compliments. It really is one of those 'WOW' products.

At €72 its not cheap but i reckon you would get years out of this and its fair superior to anything else like it at the moment. Application is very simple the spray distributes the product perfectly and it really lasts. I had investigated the body shop sparkler as a cheaper alternative but unfortunately found that it 'splated' the product on my skin in one lump rather that gave an even coverage. I found the body shop sparkler did not last on me and was a bit too glittery rather than shimmer. If you want a bling bling sparkler then the body shop may be the one for you but for something more elegant this Guerlain sparkler is definitely the one for me!

Review: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua

Recently i got my hands on this foundation from Chanel after hearing a couple of positive reviews on it. Chanel has never been my foundation of choice for two reasons, the first being i feel they never live up to their coverage claims and the second they seem to all suffer from poor lasting ability. The extremely lightweight formula of vitalumiere aqua and the lotus water ingredients peeked my interest enough to try it.

First off packaging! My impressions are that its kind of boring just a plastic tube with a nozzle similar to mac face and body but in a tiny plastic container. Just doesn't look nice enough to have spent 40 euro on. While in theory i would never say to buy a product for its packaging i do really love nice packaging and feel a bit let down when an expensive brand has poor packaging.

Second- texture. This has a very watery consistency that feels lovely going on but lets you know straight away that coverage is minimal, as in tinted moisturizer territory.

Third - Application. Application is a dream partly owing to its light consistency. Its very simple to apply and looks great immediately afterwards but is a very very light foundation! There is pretty much no coverage at all here but does a good job of unifying skin tone after application

Fourth- Result. After about a half hour of wear this started to separate on my face and became very very patchy. It looked like i had never exfoliated in my life. I had to top it up exactly two and a half hours later as it had started disappearing.

Overall i would say this is a miss for me. I didn't see any of the skincare and lotus water benefits that had been advertised and it made my skin look worse not better. As this is yet another disappointment with Chanel i find myself questioning how it has so many customers who swear by it. Do people like re-doing their foundation ten times a day or is it simply the name that attracts so many?

Welcome to my blog!

Hello all,

As you can tell from the title i'm completely addicted to cosmetics, as i'm sure many of you are too. I spend a lot of my time in beauty halls, looking up magazines and on beauty blogs. I love talking about cosmetics but unfortunately most of the people around me don't share the beauty products buzz so i have started this. Looking forward to getting started!
